| Department of Nephrology |
| Department provides world-class dialysis facilities |
Full-time nephrologist : We are among the few hospitals in Kolkata to deploy the full-time services of a nephrologist, supported by the complete complement of trained nurses, technicians and junior doctors, who supervise each dialysis session personally.
General nephrology : We provide the entire range of diagnostic (including safe kidney biopsy with an automated needle) and therapeutic facilities for all kinds of kidney diseases.
Dialysis water quality : We have a modern reverse osmosis water treatment plant to provide ultra pure water for dialysis. The water quality is checked monthly to meet American (AAMI) standards.
Haemodialysis : Our modern haemodialysis machines are equipped with an online dialysis adequacy monitoring mechanism as well as sodium/ultra-filtration profiling. The department is equipped with facilities for dialysing hepatitis patients.
Peritoneal dialysis : We were among the first Indian hospitals to institute a peritoneal dialysis management centre. We provide structural training with modern educational adjuncts leading to successful domiciliary treatment, supported by a round-the-clock helpline.
ITU dialysis : Our Fresenius ARrT plus machine (as compared to CRRT) enables us to treat critically ill patients at much lower and affordable costs. Patients can also avail of CRRT facilities.
Paediatric nephrology : We are among the few Kolkata hospitals to provide paediatric nephrology facilities.
Renal transplantation : The department is equipped to provide renal transplantation facilities with a very high success rate at a very reasonable cost package. |

The Nephrology unit at AMRI provides a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service for children with kidney disease, including acute and chronic renal failure. There is an active end-stage renal failure programme, which includes treatment with chronic peritoneal dialysis or haemodialysis and renal transplantation. The unit has special expertise in the investigation and management of children with nephrotic syndrome, haemolytic-uraemic syndrome, hypertension, vasculitis, tubular disorders and infants, young children and adolescents with chronic and end-stage renal failure (dialysis or transplantation).
The renal unit works very closely with the urological service providing comprehensive management of infants and children with complex nephro-urological disorders. |
